Type of Current Exam Taken ?

The Division of Fire Prevention and Control has adopted the 2021 International Fire Code (IFC), 2019 NFPA 13 and 13D and the 2018 NFPA 13R which affects exam currency requirements for Sprinkler Fitters.

According to 8 CCR 1507-11 5.2.7 each applicant must pass a Division approved examination that encompasses the Division's currently adopted codes. Due to DFPC's most recent code edition adoption, you must provide proof of passing an exam that encompasses the 2021 adopted codes.

Continuing Education Units

Renewals must provide 2.4 CEUs earned, on the job work can be rewarded based on hours (max 1.6) and must be submitted on company letterhead with TOTAL hours worked for the renewal year, additional education must be for installation, testing, repair or inspecting fire suppression system.

Payment Method

If you select Pay Online, you will be directed to the payment site after you submit this application. As of July 1, 2016, the price to make a Credit Card payment to DFPC will be the transaction amount plus $0.75, multiplied by 2.25%. The price to make an ACH or electronic check payment to DFPC is a flat rate of $1.00. If you choose to mail in a check for your payment, be advised that the approval process may be held up 7 to 10 business days.

A Sprinkler Fitter may work on Fire Suppression Systems only under the employ of a registered Fire Suppression System contractor.

A Sprinkler Fitter may be self-employed provided that he or she is also registered as a Fire Suppression System contractor.

According to 8 CCR 1507-11 5.3.3 all applications for registration shall have no longer than 30 days from the original submittal to correct deficiencies in their application including missing materials or fees. Applications older than 30 days with deficiencies will be considered vacated and applications and fees surrendered.

There is a combined attachment limit of 20MB

The Denver Exam is currently not being accepted as it does not encompass 2021 codes and does not meet the requirements of our Rules. If you took the State exam, we have your results.

2.4 CEUs (24 hours) are required for renewal. A MAXIMUM of 1.6 CEUs can be allotted for working at least 1600 hours in the industry over the previous year but hours worked must be submitted and are not automatically granted.
